Southern Cross Austereo - Melbourne Podcast Studio
Podcast One, Australia’s new podcast network, has a fresh and modern workplace design within Southern Cross Austereo’s Melbourne office. Cradle Design, Gattica Projects, and Sim Built were appointed to bring this vision to life. Located on a lower mezzanine level, the workspace connects to the main SCA office via a new internal staircase and offers direct street access for Podcast One staff and collaborators.
The existing mezzanine, recently vacated, presented planning challenges such as ceiling heights and services, requiring careful consideration and innovative solutions. The new design features a generous waiting area with a large leather sofa that seamlessly flows into the open-plan workspace. The re-stained engineered oak floorboards ground the predominantly white canvas, while matte black accents in the glazed framing, structural beams, air conditioning ducts, and ceiling-mounted cable trays add a striking contrast.
The open-plan area is filled with natural light, highlighting the casual cool and playfulness of the Okidoki workstations, which feature white legs, black subframes, and white laminate tops with acoustic panel dividers. The eight-person meeting room is a serene space, utilizing tones of blue in the carpet tiles, floor-to-ceiling woven beveled-edge acoustic panels, and Camira fabric meeting room chairs. The white ceiling enhances the sense of height, creating an airy and spacious feel.
Complementing but distinct from the SCA interior architecture above, Podcast One’s office provides a raw, creative environment perfect for the telling of incredible stories. The thoughtful design and careful planning have resulted in a workspace that is both functional and inspiring, reflecting the innovative spirit of Podcast One.
